Food safety alerts in Croatia involve prosciutto recalls and salmonella-contaminated tomatoes

Food safety concerns have emerged in Croatia regarding two separate products. First, Kaufland has withdrawn certain batches of prosciutto produced by Mijukić prom under the K Classic brand. Inspections revealed that the expiration dates and LOT numbers were not clearly visible on the packaging, hindering food traceability.

Separately, a salmonella outbreak linked to cherry tomatoes from Italy has affected the region. While the contaminated tomatoes were not officially imported into Croatia, businesses in Istria and the Primorje region reportedly purchased them from a Metro branch in Trieste, Italy. The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) initiated investigations after 117 salmonellosis cases were recorded in Italy. In Slovenia, the contaminated tomatoes were distributed by Metro to catering businesses, though no direct illnesses linked to the tomatoes have been confirmed there yet.
