Food safety authorities launch inspections in Keelung and Beijing

Authorities in Keelung, Taiwan, and Beijing, China, have launched targeted food safety inspection campaigns.

In Keelung, the city government has initiated a cross-departmental inspection program running from September 2 to October 13. The task force, which includes the Education Department, Health Bureau, and external food safety experts, is auditing school kitchens, meal suppliers, and ingredient providers. To ensure quality, the city is collaborating with health bureaus in Taipei and New Taipei City to inspect external meal vendors. The initiative also includes a five-day on-site guidance program for school kitchens to optimize menu design and cooking techniques.

In Beijing, the Dongcheng District Market Supervision Bureau is conducting a special rectification campaign targeting “internet celebrity” foods. The crackdown focuses on high-risk categories such as meal replacement powders, pre-prepared meat products, functional teas, imported milk powder, and gel candies. Regulators are using digital monitoring to combat false advertising and exaggerated health claims on live-streaming platforms, while also coordinating with customs to prevent substandard imported foods from entering the market.
