Food safety guidelines for freezing ground beef and storing canned tomatoes
Properly prepared and stored cooked ground beef can be safely frozen for two to three months without significant loss of quality. While freezing does not kill bacteria, it places them in a dormant state, slowing microbial growth and enzymatic activity. To maintain quality, beef should be cooled completely within two hours, divided into smaller portions, and excess grease should be removed before freezing.
Canned tomatoes can spoil if the container is damaged or mishandled. Unopened cans typically maintain best quality for 12 to 18 months when stored in a cool pantry, though some manufacturers suggest longer shelf lives. Once a can is opened, the contents must be refrigerated. Consumers should monitor for signs of spoilage and be cautious with dented or rusty cans.
