Food safety risks of storing certain liquids in vacuum flasks

While vacuum flasks are convenient for daily use, storing certain liquids in them for extended periods can pose health risks due to microbial growth or pressure buildup.

Milk is a primary concern because it is highly perishable. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), perishable foods must be kept below 4°C or above 60°C to prevent bacterial growth. Vacuum flasks may not maintain these safe temperature ranges consistently over many hours. Major manufacturers, including Thermos and Stanley, have issued warnings against storing dairy products in vacuum flasks for long durations due to the risk of spoilage and potential pressure accumulation within the sealed container.

Other beverages that require caution include milk tea, smoothies, and other drinks containing perishable ingredients.
