Food security and strategic production highlighted by experts
Experts and industry leaders have emphasized the growing strategic importance of food security and sustainable production. At Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, academics discussed the necessity of high-quality, reliable production to ensure national self-sufficiency, noting that recent international developments have elevated food to a critical strategic sector.
In observance of World Food Day, Nihat Çelik, President of TÜRKYED, stated that food has become one of the most powerful tools in the world, potentially replacing oil in future geopolitical conflicts. He highlighted the contradiction between global hunger and high levels of food waste, calling for innovation in science and technology to meet the FAO’s 2026 theme, ‘Innovate Today, Feed Tomorrow.’ Çelik also noted Turkey’s significant potential for both plant and animal-based food production.
