Food storage and preservation tips for watermelon and cucumbers

Guidelines for food preservation and storage suggest specific timelines for maintaining freshness and safety in common produce.

Sliced watermelon should be stored in a refrigerator at temperatures between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to consume sliced watermelon within two days to maintain its texture, juiciness, and flavor while minimizing the risk of bacterial contamination and exposure to refrigerator odors.

For quick pickled cucumbers, a method using salt water, spices, and a slice of dry bread can be used to facilitate natural fermentation. After being left at room temperature for three to four days, the cucumbers can be moved to the refrigerator, where they can be kept for up to three weeks.
