Football Association of Malaysia faces leadership election challenges

The upcoming Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Executive Committee elections, scheduled for September 17, face significant scrutiny regarding the leadership's ability to drive transformation. The newly elected President and Executive Committee will serve a shortened term of approximately two and a half years, covering the remainder of the 2025–2029 period.

Analysts emphasize that the incoming leadership must address critical challenges, including restoring the organization's reputation, stabilizing finances, and improving administration. There is a strong call for transparency in the election process to ensure winners possess a clear vision rather than acting as mere proxies. To inject fresh ideas into the organization, experts suggest that 60 to 70 percent of the Executive Committee should consist of new faces.
