Football Association of Serbia faces leadership crisis as UEFA intervention looms

The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) is facing a significant organizational crisis due to a lack of candidates for the presidency. With the election of a successor to Dragan Džajić approaching in two weeks, no official candidates have been announced, and the deadline for submissions is nearing.

UEFA legal experts are expected to provide an official opinion on the situation this coming Monday. The crisis is compounded by the imminent expiration of the current FSS Assembly's mandate, which could leave the association without legally elected governing bodies.

Potential solutions being considered include:

1. The appointment of a UEFA-led administration to manage the association until new elections are held, which could potentially be delayed until 2027. 2. The formation of a domestic temporary administration composed of Serbian representatives, subject to Assembly approval. 3. The appointment of an acting president from the current leadership to avoid calling an Assembly.

This institutional instability poses a challenge as Serbia is scheduled to host the UEFA European Under-21 Championship next year.
