Football Australia launches grants to support women and girls in grassroots sports
Football Australia has opened applications for the 2026/27 Growing Football Community Grant, a program designed to strengthen grassroots foundations with a focus on increasing opportunities for women and girls to play and coach. Eligible clubs and associations across Australia can apply for grants of up to $5,000. The initiative is part of the Growing Football Fund, established with support from CommBank following the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Funding is intended to support projects that improve player experiences, create new pathways into the sport, and help clubs develop coaches and inclusive environments. Previous grant recipients have utilized funds for ‘come and try’ programs, female-only activities, subsidized registration fees, and leadership programs. A significant portion of previous support has reached regional and remote communities.
In local community efforts, the Balgowlah Suns Junior AFL Club is promoting all-girls programs at Balgowlah Oval. These initiatives include ‘Club Come and Try’ days, school holiday programs, and opportunities for girls to participate in match-day experiences like NAB AFL Auskick and Superkick to build confidence and connection to the sport.
