Football clubs face financial challenges in Argentina and Mexico

Club Atlético Banfield has set the ticket price for visiting River Plate supporters at $110,000 pesos for their upcoming match in the Torneo Clausura. Club president Matías Mariotto stated that the revenue from the 7,000 available tickets will be used primarily to settle outstanding salaries and debts owed to club employees. The club is also considering an obligatory contribution fee for local fans to further stabilize its finances.

In Mexico, Leones Negros president Alberto Castellanos has highlighted the economic difficulties faced by clubs during the six-year suspension of promotion and relegation. Castellanos reported that the club received only 98 million pesos of the 120 million pesos promised by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) as annual support. He noted that the club lost over half of its sponsors and reduced its payroll by at least 20 percent during this period, citing the shift to midweek matches in the Liga de Expansión as a factor in declining fan engagement and commercial revenue.
