Football coach Zé Humberto dies at 64

Football coach Zé Humberto has died at the age of 64 after suffering a sudden illness during activities with Esporte Clube Nova Lavras in Nova Lavras, Minas Gerais. He had recently been hired by the club to prepare for the second division of the Mineiro Championship.

As a coach, Humberto was highly regarded in the Espírito Santo football scene, notably leading Atlético Itapemirim to the Capixabão and Copa Espírito Santo titles in 2017, and achieving a runner-up finish in the Copa Verde in 2018. His coaching career also included stints with clubs in Goiás, such as Itumbiara, Goiânia, and Anápolis.

Before transitioning to coaching in 1997, Humberto was a midfielder who played for Santos between 1990 and 1992, competing in the Brasileirão and the Supercopa Libertadores. Various football federations and clubs have expressed their condolences following his passing.
