Football Kenya Federation probes violence at Super Cup final
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has condemned widespread violence, vandalism, and intimidation following the FKF Super Cup match at Nyayo National Stadium. The disorder occurred after Tusker FC defeated Gor Mahia 3-1 to claim the trophy.
Reports indicate that supporters stormed the pitch, causing property damage and disrupting the trophy presentation. Security personnel deployed tear gas to manage the escalating tensions, with witnesses alleging that the use of tear gas intensified confrontations between fans and officers. There are also unverified reports of an officer using a rubber bullet and another officer appearing to pursue supporters while armed with a firearm.
Journalists covering the event were reportedly caught in the chaos. Allegations include security officers attempting to force media personnel to delete footage, as well as an incident involving the physical assault of a journalist. The FKF stated that those responsible for the conduct will face action under football regulations and Kenyan law, emphasizing that violence has no place in the sport.
