Football leagues in Peru and Chile face relegation and regulatory scrutiny

In Peru, the Liga 2 2026 Regional Phase is approaching its conclusion, determining which clubs will enter the relegation groups. Under the current regulations, teams finishing in 7th, 8th, and 9th place in both groups will form two triangular relegation groups. These six clubs will compete in a double round-robin format over six matchdays, with only one team from each triangular being relegated from the division.

In Chile, legal and financial scrutiny is affecting Primera B clubs. San Marcos de Arica faces potential disaffiliation following allegations of submitting false documentation to the ANFP. Additionally, Alex Orellana, president of Deportes Santa Cruz, has signaled an upcoming complaint against Deportes Puerto Montt regarding alleged financial, labor, or tax non-compliance, emphasizing the need for uniform regulatory enforcement.
