Football leagues across Latin America and Spain launch new seasons

Various football leagues across Latin America and Spain are launching new seasons or resuming play.

In Colombia, Liga BetPlay 2026–II resumes with matches between Águilas Doradas vs. Llaneros and Cúcuta Deportivo vs. Internacional de Bogotá, following a suspension caused by an earthquake on August 10.

In Mexico, Artesanos Metepec FC will debut in the Premier A on August 29 against Real Refineros. Saltillo Soccer is also preparing for its Liga Premier Serie A debut on August 29 at the Estadio Olímpico against La Tribu, with club officials working on stadium improvements and player reinforcements.

In El Salvador, the Liga de Ascenso Apertura 2026 tournament begins on August 28 with 24 clubs divided into two groups. The season follows a sports licensing process to ensure professional standards.

In Argentina, the Liga Catamarqueña de Fútbol Clausura 2026 begins on September 11. The tournament features 25 teams unified into four zones, with the top two finalists earning spots in the 2027 Provincial Tournament.

In Spain, the second matchday of the 2026/27 La Liga season is scheduled for late August, featuring matchups such as Espanyol vs. Real Madrid and Elche vs. Barcelona.
