Football legends call for structural change at FIFA

The group criticized current leadership under President Gianni Infantino, alleging that power has caused a loss of balance between personal interests and the best interests of the sport. They specifically noted that major decisions are being made without informing or consulting fans and players.

The pressure on Infantino follows a proposal to establish a commercial organization for FIFA tournament rights, with plans to sell 20 percent to private investors. This move faces opposition from several football confederations, including UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF. The former players are calling for stakeholders to help reshape the future of the sport to ensure players and fans have a direct voice in its governance.
