Football officials address match-fixing and refereeing allegations in Brazil and Portugal

In Brazil, Ricardo Gluck Paul, Vice President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and President of the Paraense Football Federation, has raised concerns regarding potential match-fixing. Following a match between Ferroviária and Inter de Limeira in the Serie C access quadrangular, Gluck Paul suggested the performance lacked competitiveness and appeared to be a ‘jogo de compadre’ (collusion). He advised Paysandu to consider conceding their match against Brusque if they detect similar coordinated behavior from opponents.

In Portugal, Luciano Gonçalves, leader of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) Referees Council, has stated he is fully available to cooperate with the Judicial Police (PJ). This follows an investigation into alleged referee appointment manipulation during the final stages of the previous season. Gonçalves denied allegations of corruption and expressed a desire to distance himself from the scandal, offering to provide all necessary data, including mobile phone records, to the authorities.
