Football players hospitalized following serious head and facial injuries

Two separate incidents involving serious player injuries have been reported in South American football.

In Argentina, 18-year-old Gabriel Carrera of Defensores de Constitución is fighting for his life in intensive care after sustaining a severe head injury during a match against La Bianca. Club president Jaime Cisnero described the incident as an “unjustified aggression,” alleging that a player from the opposing team struck Carrera with an elbow. Carrera, who had just made his first-division debut the previous weekend, collapsed after attempting to walk to the sidelines following the impact.

In Paraguay, midfielder Ronal Domínguez of Deportivo Recoleta was hospitalized after an accidental collision with his own teammate, goalkeeper Andrés Marsengo. During a match against Olimpia, Marsengo struck Domínguez in the face with his knee while attempting to clear the ball. The club's medical department confirmed that Domínguez suffered facial trauma and a mild concussion but stated he is currently clinically stable and out of danger.
