Football profiles: Álvaro Carreras' rise and Hugo Saggioratto's transition

Profiles of two footballers highlight contrasting career trajectories. Álvaro Carreras, born in March 2003 in Ferrol, Spain, rose through the ranks of Galicia de Caranza and Racing de Ferrol before joining Deportivo de La Coruña at age nine. He later moved to Real Madrid’s academy, La Fábrica, in 2017, where he developed as a left-back over three seasons.

In contrast, former player Hugo Saggioratto has transitioned from professional football to running a local bar in Arequito, Argentina. During the 1970s, Saggioratto played for Independiente, winning multiple Copa Libertadores (1972, 1973, 1975) and the Intercontinental Cup. Notably, he was on the pitch when Ricardo Bochini made his professional debut in 1972. Saggioratto, who also shared the field with Diego Maradona, now manages the Porto Belo bar alongside a partner.
