Football programs face quarterback competitions ahead of new seasons

Various football programs are preparing for upcoming seasons, with a focus on roster depth and leadership transitions.

The Duke Blue Devils have commenced fall camp as they prepare to defend their first ACC Championship since 1989. Head coach Manny Diaz noted that several position groups remain undecided, specifically within the secondary and at quarterback. The quarterback competition involves San Jose State transfer Walker Eget and redshirt freshman Dan Mahan. Diaz stated, "we have to see, and we just have to get through this training camp" regarding a timeline for naming a starter.

In high school football, the Norcross Blue Devils are entering Corey Richardson's second season as head coach. After a 6-5 season in 2025, the team is moving from Class 6A to Class 7A. Following the graduation of quarterback PJ Wolfe, the program faces a competition between senior Logan Herring and Luqman Baig to lead the offense.
