UEFA Champions League prepares for 2026/27 season and new format
The 2026/27 European football season is approaching, highlighted by the UEFA Champions League's ongoing qualifying rounds and the upcoming transition to its new League Phase format. The third qualifying round matches are currently underway, with teams competing for spots in the play-off round.
The new Champions League format features a single 36-team league table instead of traditional groups. Each club will play eight matches against eight different opponents—four at home and four away. The league phase is scheduled to begin on September 8, with the draw for the league stage set for August 27 in Monaco. The competition will culminate in the final at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on June 5, 2027.
Broadcasting services are also preparing for the new season. Sky Sport has announced extensive coverage, including the UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa on August 12, as well as various domestic leagues and European competitions. In Italy, TIMVISION is offering bundled subscriptions for DAZN and Amazon Prime to facilitate viewing of the Serie A season.
