Football statistics show differing paths to titles in England and Tunisia

Statistical analysis of football leagues reveals differing trends regarding whether offensive or defensive strength is more critical for winning championships. In the English Premier League, data spanning 31 seasons shows that the best attacking team won the title 21 times, while the best defensive team won 15 times. In 12 of those instances, the champion relied on offensive firepower despite not having the league's strongest defense.

Conversely, in the Tunisian championship, the trend is reversed. An analysis of ten seasons since 2011-2012 indicates that the best defense led to seven titles, compared to five for the best attack. For example, Espérance de Tunis won the 2024-2025 season through offensive dominance, scoring 57 goals despite ranking fifth in defensive performance.

In recent Premier League action, Arsenal has struggled with late-game management. Following a 4-2 loss to Manchester City, reflections on the team's performance highlighted that while Arsenal maintains tactical clarity, they have lacked the ability to secure goals in the final minutes of matches, a contrast to previous seasons where substitutions often provided a decisive advantage.
