Miguel Borja joins Club América as new striker

Club América has officially signed Colombian striker Miguel Borja for the Apertura 2026 tournament. The 33-year-old forward arrives from Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates, where he scored eight goals in 16 matches. Borja, a former World Cup participant with Colombia, brings extensive experience from clubs such as River Plate, Palmeiras, and Atlético Nacional.

Borja's arrival follows a previously failed attempt to join Cruz Azul earlier this year, which collapsed due to foreign player registration limits. Reports indicate that Borja accepted a lower salary—approximately $2 million annually compared to his previous earnings in the UAE—to prioritize family security amidst regional geopolitical instability.

Under coach Guillermo Almada, Borja is expected to bolster the team's attack and compete for starting positions with captain Henry Martín. The signing is part of a strategic shift for América to acquire high-quality players through targeted, cost-effective transfers.
