Gjana Asllan, 16-year-old footballer, dies after stadium accident in Thassos

Gjana Asllan, a 16-year-old footballer for Vyronas Kavala, has died following a severe head injury sustained during a local league match in Thassos. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, during a match between Aida Panagias and Vyronas Kavala B at the Panagias stadium.

During the second minute of play, Asllan lost his balance while competing for the ball near the sideline and struck the back of his head against a concrete wall/fence located just one meter from the field of play. He lost consciousness immediately and was treated by the match doctor before being transported to Kavala Hospital, where he was placed in intensive care. Despite medical efforts, he passed away on Tuesday, September 29.

Authorities, including the Thassos Police and the Kavala Prosecutor's Office, have launched a preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the death. The inquiry is focusing on the safety standards of the Panagias stadium, specifically examining the distance between the playing field and the perimeter walls, as well as the facility's licensing and compliance with safety regulations for matches involving minors.
