Footballers Rav and Joel van den Berg face potential January exits

Two professional footballers, Rav van den Berg and Joel van den Berg, may face departures from their respective clubs during the January transfer window due to limited playing time and injury setbacks.

At 1. FC Köln, centre-back Rav van den Berg has struggled to secure a starting position following his €8 million move from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2025. Currently sidelined with a muscle injury, the 22-year-old has not played this season. Sporting managing director Thomas Kessler indicated that if there is no fundamental change in his sporting situation by the winter break, the club will discuss potential loan or permanent moves with his agency.

Similarly, Celtic midfielder Joel van den Berg, a 19-year-old signing from PSV Eindhoven, has yet to make his debut for the club. His progress has been hindered by injury, as evidenced by him wearing a protective boot in September. Celtic may consider a loan move for the second half of the season if he continues to struggle for first-team minutes, provided the club maintains sufficient midfield cover.
