Footballers Varela and Noriega receive disciplinary suspensions
Several football players have received disciplinary sanctions following recent matches.
In Colombia, Independiente Medellín defender Joaquín Varela has been handed a one-match suspension and a fine of $350,181. The disciplinary committee issued the penalty following a direct red card during a match against Deportes Tolima for serious foul play involving Luis Sandoval.
In South American competition, Peruvian footballer Erick Noriega has been suspended for four matches by Conmebol. The sanction follows his expulsion during a Copa Sudamericana playoff match between Gremio and Bolívar. Noriega was cited for violent conduct against a player and unsportsmanlike conduct toward a match official. Additionally, Gremio will face an $8,000 fine, which will be deducted from the club's Conmebol revenue.
