Foothill High School football team stripped of undefeated record
The Foothill High School football team in Bakersfield has been stripped of its undefeated 7-0 record following a ruling by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). The sanction comes after the CIF determined the team fielded two ineligible players during its first seven games.
Athletic director Mike Biezard stated that the CIF had originally cleared the players to compete but later reversed its decision. Biezard noted that schools do not verify submitted student addresses, asserting that such verification is the responsibility of the CIF. The specific eligibility rules violated remain unclear, and the reasoning behind the federation's probe has not been fully disclosed.
This incident follows a similar situation earlier this month, where Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield was forced to forfeit four of its five wins due to player eligibility issues.
