Footscray MP Katie Hall highlights rising violence in Nicholson Street area

State Labor MP Katie Hall has highlighted a rise in violence and instability in the Footscray area, specifically around the Nicholson Street Mall. Hall described the area as having a “volatile edge” compared to its past.

Recent incidents in the vicinity include the April 2025 police shooting of 35-year-old Abdifatah Ahmed and a June 7 brawl at the Courthouse Hotel that resulted in the stabbing death of 25-year-old Millenium Nyolic. Additionally, Hall reported a June 25 assault where a man allegedly kicked a woman in the head after colliding with her on Nicholson Street. The MP herself noted she had been the victim of an attack in the same area.
