Footwear specialists recommend breathable, supportive sandals for summer comfort

Podology experts Aitor Pérez and Paula Chicón advise that summer sandals should be securely fastened to the foot, breathable and avoid fully flat, non‑ventilated designs. They recommend sandals with a heel or ankle strap and a sole that provides 1–3 cm of elevation, a wide toe box and a flexible, cushioned insole to absorb impact. Such footwear is suitable for occasional use at the beach, pool or public showers, but should not replace proper shoes for long walks or extended daily wear. Plastic or completely closed‑toe sandals can increase foot sweating and risk of fungal infection. The specialists also stress the importance of drying feet after use and seeking medical advice if injuries develop.
