Footwear trends shift toward barre trainers and expressive designs
Footwear trends are shifting away from chunky styles toward 'sneakerinas'—a hybrid between a ballet pump and a sneaker, often referred to as barre trainers. This trend, which blends sporty and feminine aesthetics, has been championed by designers such as Jonathan Anderson for Loewe, as well as brands like Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, and Cecilie Bahnsen.
High-street and athletic brands have also released interpretations, including offerings from H&M, Adidas, and Puma. The rise of these styles is linked to the 'balletcore' and 'ugly shoe' fashion movements, with the footwear being used to offset oversized tailoring.
In menswear, while classic white trainers remain a staple, stylists suggest moving toward more inventive or 'freaky' designs to avoid a boring aesthetic. Brands such as Salomon, Merrell, and Maison Margiela are noted for providing more expressive alternatives to traditional rounded-toe styles.
