Forbes 2026 World’s Best Employers: South African firms lead Africa

Forbes has released its World’s Best Employers 2026 rankings, featuring 900 multinational companies from 52 countries. The list, compiled in partnership with Statista, is based on a survey of over 300,000 employees regarding workplace quality, benefits, and professional development.

South African companies dominated the African rankings, accounting for nine of the top 10 entries on the continent. Nedbank led the African group, ranking 26th globally. Other high-ranking South African firms include Standard Bank Group, Absa Group, and FirstRand. The financial services sector was particularly prominent, representing six of the top 10 African companies.

Guaranty Trust Bank was the sole Nigerian company in the top 10 African employers, placing 277th globally. Notably, no companies from Ghana were included in the 900-firm list, despite several South African firms with Ghanaian subsidiaries appearing in the rankings. Globally, Microsoft was the highest-ranked U.S. company, followed by Delta Airlines and Shopify.
