Forbes 400: US billionaire wealth hits record $8 trillion

The 2026 Forbes 400 list reveals a record-breaking total wealth of $8 trillion among America’s richest individuals, a $1.4 trillion increase from the previous year. This surge is largely attributed to the rapid expansion of the artificial intelligence and data center industries.

Elon Musk retains his position as the wealthiest person in the United States with an estimated net worth of $908 billion, driven significantly by the valuation of SpaceX. Jeff Bezos follows in second place with $378 billion, and Larry Page ranks third with $278 billion. The top 20 individuals hold nearly $4 trillion, roughly half of the total wealth on the list.

The entry threshold for the list has reached a historic high of $4.4 billion, up $600 million from last year. This rising bar has left a record 590 billionaires unable to qualify for the top 400.

Artificial intelligence has significantly reshaped the rankings, introducing a new generation of wealthy tech leaders. Notable newcomers include OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, whose wealth is estimated at $25.5 billion, and several co-founders from Anthropic. The AI boom is also driving wealth for established figures like Michael Dell and Jensen Huang.
