Ford and other firms reverse AI‑driven layoffs and resume hiring

Artificial intelligence is reshaping the workplace by automating routine tasks and personalising digital workspaces, with studies noting that up to 30% of an employee's time can be freed for higher‑value work. While AI tools such as large‑language models improve efficiency, concerns about data privacy, algorithmic bias and the need for human oversight have prompted regulatory attention, including the EU AI Act.

Companies that previously cut thousands of jobs in favour of AI‑only operations are now rehiring staff after encountering performance gaps. Ford announced the recruitment of hundreds of engineers, citing AI’s inability to fully address quality issues. Australia’s Commonwealth Bank and technology firm IBM have also reinstated human workers where AI‑driven voice bots and automation fell short. Industry leaders now stress a balanced approach, using AI to augment rather than replace human expertise.
