Ford and Peugeot prepare for 2027 WEC Hypercar season

Major automotive manufacturers Ford and Peugeot are accelerating development for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar class.

Ford Racing is utilizing virtual testing to prepare its new Hypercar. In Dearborn, Michigan, engineers are using a dynamometer to simulate full laps of the 13.626 km Circuit de la Sarthe. This process allows the team to validate the 5.4-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 engine, testing gear shifts, braking zones, and acceleration in a virtual environment before the prototype reaches a physical track.

Peugeot is also undergoing a significant transition for the 2027 season. The manufacturer plans to introduce a heavily redesigned 9X8 Hypercar featuring updated aerodynamics and a refined V6 powertrain aimed at improving efficiency and competitiveness. Alongside technical changes, Peugeot expects a major roster overhaul, with reports suggesting that up to 50% of the current driver lineup may change, including the potential departures of Stoffel Vandoorne and Malthe Jakobsen.
