Ford and Toyota announce major updates for pickup truck lineups
Ford has announced significant updates for the 2027 F-150, centered on a new 3.0-liter V6 engine. While maintaining 325 horsepower and 542 Nm of torque, the new engine delivers peak torque at 2,250 rpm rather than 3,500 rpm, providing approximately 10-11% more available power during frequent daily driving speeds. The F-150's towing capacity remains at 3,810 kg, though the 3.5 EcoBoost option can tow up to 6,120 kg.
Ford is also expanding its BlueCruise hands-free driving assistance system to function while towing on compatible routes. Additionally, the lineup will include a new Carhartt special edition and increased availability of V8 engines.
Separately, Toyota has confirmed that the Hilux FCEV, a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, will enter production in 2028. The model will join Toyota's European lineup alongside diesel hybrid and fully electric versions. The Hilux FCEV aims for a range exceeding 400 km (WLTP) and a towing capacity of 2,500 kg. While hydrogen offers fast refueling in approximately five minutes, the widespread adoption of the model in Europe may be limited by current hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
