Ford announces return to FIA World Rally Championship

Ford has announced its return to the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with a factory-supported team starting in 2028. The manufacturer will once again partner with M-Sport, the Cumbria-based team that has collaborated with Ford Racing for approximately 30 years.

As part of this return, Ford plans to compete at a lower level in 2027 using a modified Rally2 vehicle to prepare for the top-tier Rally1 category. A completely new rally vehicle, based on an upcoming European production model, is expected to make its debut in 2029.

The move aligns with upcoming technical regulations for 2027, which will feature four-wheel-drive machines with 100% thermal powertrains. This strategy aims to integrate motorsport expertise into Ford’s new generation of multi-energy European models, including electric and hybrid vehicles.
