Ford Australia introduces Chinese-made vehicle models

Ford Australia is introducing its first Chinese-made models, the Transit City and the Bronco Basecamp, produced through its partner JMC. This move is part of a strategy to reduce the company's heavy reliance on the Ford Ranger and Everest, which are manufactured in Thailand and currently account for nearly 90 per cent of its Australian sales.

Lucas Harris, Chief Operating Officer of Chery Australia, commented that Ford has “really no choice if they want to remain competitive” and suggested that producing vehicles in China is a necessary step for established brands to maintain their market position.

The Transit City is expected to arrive in Australia first, with deliveries scheduled to begin in November at a drive-away price of approximately $50,000. The Bronco Basecamp, which will feature a range-extender electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain, is slated for a launch in the second half of 2027.
