Ford Australia plans major lineup expansion using China-sourced models
Ford Australia is planning a significant expansion of its vehicle lineup to increase its market coverage. Speaking at the Ford Uncovered event in Melbourne, Ford Australia President and CEO Fadi Mawal stated that the company currently competes in only 30 per cent of Australia’s new-vehicle market following the discontinuation of several models, including the Fiesta, Focus, Puma, Escape, and Mondeo.
To address this, Ford aims to double its segment coverage to 60 per cent within the next three years. The company intends to leverage its global footprint, including sourcing models from China for the first time, to introduce vehicles such as the Transit City and the Bronco Basecamp. By the end of the decade, Ford expects 90 per cent of its lineup to consist of either significantly refreshed or entirely new models.
