Ford begins development of next-generation Ranger in Australia

Ford has confirmed that early development for the next-generation Ford Ranger is underway at its Australian headquarters in Melbourne. A team of approximately 1,500 engineers is leading the project, which is expected to debut by the end of the decade, likely around 2030.

The new model is anticipated to feature a redesigned body and a modernized interior that balances digital solutions with physical controls to improve comfort. To meet tightening global emissions regulations, the next-generation architecture will support a significant increase in hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

Reports suggest the upcoming Ranger may transition to a new global body-on-frame architecture shared with the next-generation F-150. While Ford continues to utilize its Australian engineering hub despite high local labor costs, the company is reportedly negotiating with the Australian government for incentives to ensure the long-term sustainability of the local engineering center.
