Ford commemorates 125 years of motorsport and the legacy of the DFV V8 engine

To mark 125 years of involvement in motorsport, Ford is highlighting the historical impact of the Cosworth DFV V8 engine. Developed starting in 1965 under the direction of Walter Hayes, the project was assigned to Keith Duckworth and Mike Costin, leading to the formation of Cosworth.

The DFV (Double Four Valve) engine was a technological breakthrough in Formula 1, moving beyond the two-valve-per-cylinder designs of the era. It made its competitive debut on June 4, 1967, at the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands. During this debut, driver Jim Clark demonstrated the engine's capabilities with the Ford-Lotus team, securing a victory and the fastest lap with an average speed of 171.375 km/h.
