Ford to launch Bronco Basecamp hybrid SUV in Australia and New Zealand
Ford is expanding its electrified vehicle presence in the Oceania region with the introduction of the Bronco Basecamp, a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) produced through a joint venture with Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) in China.
In Australia and New Zealand, the Bronco Basecamp is scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2027. Ford Australia has opted to launch only the EREV version rather than a fully battery-electric model, citing current charging infrastructure limitations for long-distance travel. The EREV features a 49kWh battery and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that acts solely as an on-board generator, providing an estimated driving range of 800km to 900km. The vehicle is designed with outdoor utility in mind, featuring integrated camping amenities such as a pop-up roof and specialized storage.
In the Philippines, Ford has refreshed its Everest and Ranger lineups with new V6 turbodiesel engines, though the potential arrival of the Bronco Basecamp is being discussed as a way to compete in the growing plug-in hybrid SUV segment. Additionally, Ford Australia is introducing the E-Transit City, a 1-tonne battery-electric van built by JMC, which is expected to arrive in showrooms late next month to serve urban delivery and trade needs.
