Ford develops off-road Mustang Baja and unveils Dark Horse SC

Ford is reportedly continuing development on an off-road variant of the Mustang, tentatively named the “Baja.” According to reports, the automaker has recently shown this all-terrain model to dealers, suggesting the project remains active despite previous periods of silence regarding its timeline.

While official specifications have not been confirmed, rumors suggest the Mustang Baja could feature a V8 engine, a ten-speed automatic transmission, and an all-wheel-drive system—a significant departure from the traditional rear-wheel-drive setup of the Mustang lineup. The vehicle is expected to include increased ride height, specialized suspension with longer travel, and underbody protection.

In a separate high-performance announcement, Ford unveiled the Mustang Dark Horse SC in Michigan. This new convertible variant produces 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful production Mustang convertible ever built. Order banks for the Dark Horse SC are expected to open in fall 2026.
