Ford faces recall delays and new safety issues for Mustang Mach-E and Kuga

Ford is facing significant challenges regarding vehicle recalls and repair efficiency. The company has issued 75 recalls so far in 2026, following a record 153 in 2025. While Ford averages 174 days to resolve a recall—faster than competitors Nissan and Stellantis—the company struggles with long timelines for specific issues. For example, a recall for nearly 500,000 Ford Explorers regarding detached door trim may not see a remedy until November 2026.

In a separate safety matter, Ford has initiated two major recall campaigns affecting 132,385 Mustang Mach-E and Kuga vehicles. The Mustang Mach-E recall involves a rear differential defect that can cause a loss of propulsion or involuntary movement when parked. The Kuga recall concerns wiring issues that could lead to power loss or, in certain circumstances, a fire. These campaigns have been registered by the German transport authority, Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA).
