Italy records spike in road accidents with multiple injuries
A series of traffic incidents across Italy injured several people in the past week. In Fano, a Ford Fiesta collided with a parked Dacia Duster, overturning and hospitalising the driver. A separate crash on the Adriatic highway near Fano saw a 50‑year‑old lose control, hit a road sign and roll into a ditch, also requiring medical attention. In Reggiolo, a denied overtaking maneuver escalated into a chase, threats and punches to a windshield before the suspect was identified and charged.
On the A2 motorway between Campagna and Eboli, a heavy truck left the road, breaching the guardrail and causing serious injuries to the driver, who was taken to hospital. A van crash in the Virgolo tunnel near Bolzano overturned, sending two occupants to the hospital with moderate injuries. A motorcycle collision near Pimonte left both riders seriously hurt, and a head‑on crash on provincial road 457 near Spoleto killed a 49‑year‑old motorcyclist. Additional incidents included a vehicle overturning in a ditch at Chions, a SEUS service vehicle accident on the A19, and a car fire on the A2 between Lamezia Terme and Falerna, all resulting in injuries or emergency response but no fatalities.
