Ford implements Gemba strategy and sets Nürburgring record

Ford is implementing a Japanese management technique known as ‘Gemba’ to improve vehicle development. Championed by CEO Jim Farley, the strategy prioritizes real-world testing and hands-on experience over virtual simulations. Design Chief Todd Willing recently drove a Mustang Dark Horse prototype 3,200 miles to gather data on ergonomics and usability, while also conducting unannounced dealership visits to collect feedback from frontline sales teams.

In a separate performance milestone, the Ford Mustang GTD set a new record for American production cars at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Piloted by professional driver Dirk Müller, the vehicle completed the circuit in 6 minutes and 57.685 seconds. The Mustang GTD features a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing over 800 horsepower, active aerodynamics, and a carbon-fiber body, positioning it as a competitor to European track-focused supercars.
