Ford updates electric Explorer and Capri with new battery technology

Ford has introduced significant updates to its all-electric Explorer and Capri models, primarily driven by new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology. These updates enhance both range and performance. The Explorer’s urban range has increased by 25%, rising from 496 km to 619 km, while its WLTP combined range has moved from 378 km to 440 km. The Capri has seen a 24% increase in urban range, reaching 586 km from 471 km, with a WLTP combined range of 437 km. Both models now deliver 190 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 8.0 seconds. The LFP batteries allow for regular charging up to 100% capacity and support 10% to 80% fast charging in 26 minutes using 105 kW DC.

In addition to hardware improvements, Ford is expanding its digital ecosystem by deploying an AI-based chatbot within its Ford and Lincoln smartphone apps. Aimed at approximately eight million customers, the assistant can explain vehicle systems like BlueCruise, provide technical guidance, and suggest troubleshooting steps based on vehicle telemetry. Ford also plans to integrate Google’s Gemini assistant as an optional feature in compatible vehicles to enhance the in-car infotainment experience.
