Ford Kuga owners report range loss after battery recall software update
Ford Kuga owners are expressing significant dissatisfaction following a software update intended to address a high-voltage battery recall (25SC4). Instead of replacing the problematic battery cells, which Ford identified as having a risk of internal short circuits that could lead to vehicle fires, the company has implemented a software update to the battery management system.
According to manufacturer information cited by the consumer law firm Dr. Stoll & Sauer, this update may reduce the usable energy capacity of the battery as it ages. This can result in a range reduction of approximately 12 percent. Some customers have reported even more severe impacts, including longer charging times and inconsistent range displays.
Dr. Stoll & Sauer advises affected owners to meticulously document their vehicle's range, charging amounts, and charging times before and after the update to facilitate potential legal assessments.
