Ford launches $28,000 electric pickup to rival Chinese competitors
Ford CEO Jim Farley has addressed US government concerns regarding relations with China, labeling certain accusations as “mistruths” while emphasizing the company’s commitment to developing autonomous technologies and products.
To compete with rising Chinese competition in the electric vehicle market, Ford is launching the Fathom, an electric pickup with a starting price of $28,000. Built on the Universal EV platform, the vehicle utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries produced domestically at the BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan.
While Ford collaborates with the Chinese company CATL for technology and know-how, the company maintains that all production processes and ownership remain under American control. The Fathom features NACS charging ports, bidirectional charging capabilities, and BlueCruise hands-free driving technology.
