Ford pauses Romanian production for scheduled summer shutdown, not energy crisis

Ford Motor Company clarified that the temporary suspension of vehicle production at its Romanian plant is part of a pre‑planned summer vacation, unrelated to the country's energy shortage. The company said the break, also observed at its German facilities, was scheduled well in advance and will last until 19 August.

Interim Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan had earlier claimed that Ford and its Dacia subsidiary voluntarily halted output to reduce electricity consumption, estimating a saving of about 200 MW. The statement was used to illustrate broader energy‑saving measures urged by the government amid a heat‑wave and reduced hydro‑ and nuclear generation. Television host Mircea Badea later accused Bolojan of misleading the public about the reasons for the shutdown.

Ford’s spokesperson described the situation as a misunderstanding, emphasizing that no production activity is occurring because of the routine summer break, not because of an energy emergency.
