Ford prepares launch of Fathom electric pickup truck

Ford is preparing to launch the Fathom, a mid-size electric pickup truck built on its new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027 at the Louisville Assembly plant, with deliveries in North America expected to start in 2028. The vehicle is priced starting at approximately US$28,350.

The Fathom utilizes a redesigned manufacturing process intended to reduce costs and assembly time. By using large aluminum castings for the front and rear sections, Ford aims to replace 146 individual components with just two large castings. This structural approach integrates the battery pack into the vehicle floor, which Ford estimates will make assembly roughly 40% faster than current models.

While currently confirmed only for the North American market, Ford has trademarked the Fathom name in Australia, suggesting potential future availability in that region. The project is part of a larger $5 billion investment in Ford's electric vehicle infrastructure, including the BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan.
