Ford develops next-generation Ranger and new electric pickups

Ford is advancing its electrification and next-generation vehicle strategies, focusing on both its Ranger pickup line and new electric platforms. In Australia, approximately 1,500 engineers are currently developing the next generation of the Ford Ranger, which is expected to launch around 2030. This development aims to increase electrification levels in response to stricter emission standards, following the introduction of the Ranger plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in 2025.

The Ranger PHEV is designed to maintain heavy-duty capabilities, offering a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons and a payload of one ton, while providing up to 43 kilometers of pure electric driving range.

Separately, Ford is transitioning its electric truck lineup. Following the discontinuation of the F-150 Lightning, the company is preparing to launch the Fathom, a mid-sized all-electric pickup built on the new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, expected in early 2027. Additionally, Ford is developing an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) to serve as a high-range successor to the F-150 Lightning, utilizing a gasoline engine as a generator to provide a total range exceeding 1,100 kilometers.
